Backstory
If you're new to the case, or just this app, you can learn about what drove me to create this app here.
App Homescreen
- If you enable related keywords by activating the toggle on the homescreen, beware that the processing of the search and any filters you apply on the search results page (the page with all the article cards that contain matches) can be time intensive because your browser has to churn through a lot of data. I think you'll find—especially with the keyword groups that are custom to this case—the juice is worth the squeeze. 🍋
- Hover over or tap information icons to view tooltips.
- See the Methodology page to learn more about the toggles.
- If you use your browser's back button to return the app homescreen, sometimes the spinner (the green spinny thing that tells you the website is fixin' to do something) gets hung up. If you click/tap on the page or use your esc key when you see the homescreen, it will stop. Alternatively, you can refresh the page. 🎭👑
- If you're on desktop and want to access links in tooltips, first click on the info icon. If you only hover, you won't be to access it to click the link.
- You can view the custom, case-specific dictionaries on the Case Lexicon page. Entering one of these terms and activating the 'Include related keywords' toggle will return matches for all the keywords in that group.
- Searching for 'forensic pathology' will return matches for a host of keywords that are frequently referenced in testimony by medical examiners, coroners, and forensic pathologists, as you can see in the image 👇.
- Searching for 'all months' will return all results that include a month, whereas searching for 'September', for example, will return matches for 'September' or 'Sept.' (the abbreviation journalists typically use.)
- Searching for 'days of the week' will return all results that include a day of the week (e.g., Sunday, Monday, etc).
- Searching for 'kids' will return results that include references to JJ, Tylee, Brighton, 'kids', 'child', etc. I couldn't include Blake Boudreaux—though he was also identified as a dark spirit—because of the overlap with Fremont County Prosecutor Lindsey Blake, but he's frequently mentioned alongside his sister, Brighton.

Search Results Page
- Articles are sorted by newest to oldest.
- You can filter by year by selecting a year from the filter list, as shown in the image 👇.
- As fate would have it, you can use the 2023 to filter by Lori Vallow's Idaho trial, 2024 for Chad Daybell's Idaho trial, and 2025 for Lori's Arizona trial. Of course, if her trial for conspiracy to murder Brandon Boudreaux is held in June, that will mean 2025 will filter for both AZ trials.
- When you select the 'View Article' link, it will take you to a page in the app that highlights whatever term you searched for (and related terms or phrases if you activated the 'Include related keywords' toggle.).
- Using the 'Back to Search' button will clear your search. If you want to keep your query, use your browser's back button.
- If there are more than 10 articles with matches, you'll see pagination links at the bottom of the page.

Article Page
- When you open an article page, the page should advance to the first match of your search term. If there's more than one match, you'll be able to use the arrows at the bottom of the page to advance to the next result. You can also use your left and right arrow keys on your keyboard.
- You can open the original article by selecting the 'View Original Article' link.
- If you discover a 🦟 please let me know! 👊
